Son to former British hurdler Lorna Boothe, third cousin of Great Jamaican Olympian Herb McKinley and grandson to a former prominent Jamaican cyclist, Tremayne Gilling was born into a very talented sporting background. One could have only assumed that he would have inherited something special in the world of athletics as the young Gilling started being out on the track with his mother from as early as two years old.
For those of us who might need a little brush on our history in British athletics; Tremayne’s mother Lorna Boothe is a former British record holder, double Olympian, Commonwealth Games gold medalist in 1978 and silver medalist in 1982 over the 100m hurdles. Being born to Lorna Boothe and also with his strong roots to very useful Jamaican athletes, Tremayne was indeed gifted with a good head start into the world of sport.
In 2015 Tremayne decided to venture into a new area of sport, one where he was still able to use his sprinting talents. After a conversation, his then coach Lloyd Cowan suggested Bobsleigh could be a good direction.
